E46 323CI just today started having a “rough” idle, I can feel the vibration in the low revs but just from some revs in neutral it seems to go away higher up, and sometimes it shakes even more when I first press the gas (this was when it was parked).
A photo I took in the goodwood fos parking lot last year for your time.

Sounds like a misfire. One by one disconnect coil packs to find which cylinder it is. If miss moves with the coil replace the coil.

My E39 does a similar thing. Could be a couple things, but likely the CCV valve if it’s never been replaced

Obligatory: Do you have a code reader? Any codes?

Mileage? Check Engine Light on?
I would see about getting the codes read if the CEL is on, it could be a sensor, could be a bad coil or spark plug. I’ve had that on my e46 330i before, too.

The CEL was on before hand and it still is. It has just under 150k kilometers.

No but my school does so I’ll see what I can do about that next week. (no school this week cuz exams which I don’t have lol).

Every e46 owner should own a code reader

Well looking at some forums and stuff I have gone for longer drives in the car often (they say it’s an issue if you only drive the car short distances) and there’s a video where a car was making weird noises, and I don’t have that. I’m thinking misfire but I can’t be too sure just yet.

You are very correct...

Code reader is on my short list, too.
Any idea how old your spark plugs are? I believe the replacement interval is around 100k miles. (if my conversion is right you are close to that.)
Best bet is to pull codes, that will help narrow it down.

Just for clarification if you remove the right one then start the car what will it feel like? Wouldn’t the roughness still be there?

It will be worse until you find the cylinder that’s got the miss. Depending on which type coils you have you can pop them off while the engine is running.
When you pull the bad coil, it won’t make any difference if it’s installed or not, so that’s the bad one you need to replace.
...if it’s actually a coil

Well I primarily drive for ten minutes at a time, twice a day, so possibly.

Got a diagnostic and the guy said it would need all coils and a tuneup with cleaning injectors and shit: $1300 (Not happening lol)
But there was a second code which was a dealer code or something so they didnt bother lol, I should really buy some tools....
